About the role

At Viralgen, data is at the heart of innovation. We are looking for a Data Governance Specialist to lead the design, implementation, and evolution of our data governance framework. Your work will ensure that data coming from multiple systems is trustworthy, secure, compliant, and ready to power advanced analytics and AI applications across the organization.

This position plays a critical role in enabling efficient decision-making, supporting strategic projects such as SSMQ and process characterization, and fostering a data-driven culture across teams. If you are passionate about creating clarity, quality, and value from data—and driving organizational change—this role is for you.

Key Tasks:

  • Ensure Compliance & Data Risk Mitigation: Derive implications of global IT security, regulatory and compliance requirements.
  • Lead Use Case–Driven Governance Activities: Work with Manufacturing, Quality, OT, LIMS, IT Architecture, and Data Science to define and prioritize manufacturing related data use cases, translating business needs into clear data requirements and governance implications.
  • Assess Data Governance Gaps: Evaluate data availability, quality, lineage, and end to end flows across LIMS, PIMS/PI, QMS/TrackWise, SAP, batch records, and OT systems to identify and prioritize gaps.
  • Design a Use Case Focused Data Governance Framework: Define metadata standards, nomenclature, data ownership models, classification rules, lifecycle management practices, and KPIs to address identified gaps while aligning with ALCOA+, compliance, security, and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate Implementation Across Functions and Systems: Work with system owners (LIMS, PIMS, OT, QMS, batch records), SMEs, and IT architecture to embed governance rules into processes and technology, ensuring harmonization, adoption, and progress monitoring.
  • Strengthen Data Ownership and Literacy: Establish and support data owners and stewards, lead workshops and training sessions, and promote data literacy and governance best practices across the organization.
